Crossroads CARE Team
Crossroads Center is in need of volunteers for our C.A.R.E. Team (Christians Aiding in Resources and Encouragement). Here are some of the
ways a CARE Team member ministers to our patients:
- Using scripture, explains the only way to get to heaven.
- Gives a Bible to new clients .
- Distributes to all clients a daily devotional guide for each quarter.
- Offers other literature/publications that may be of benefit to the client for their given situation.
- Asks the client for prayer requests and prays with/for each client.
- Records prayer requests for reference on their next visit. Also puts prayer request in the prayer request box in lobby for use by prayer groups.
- Offers the client a menu for One Harvest.
A
patient came to Crossroads back in the beginning of 2007. Our providers
diagnosed him with diabetes, and he began to take insulin. He came in often
because of his disease. He had to be monitored and his medication had to be
adjusted. Each time he came in, he was asked to go to an “exit interview”, now called
C.A.R.E. Sometimes he went but most often he did not. In fact, he made one of
our volunteers cry because he said he did not want prayer or need prayer.
Each
time he came in we offered C.A.R.E. Over about a year and a half he went to see
the CARE team more and more often. The last time we saw this patient, he asked
for prayer for himself from the volunteer that he earlier made cry, which made
her cry again.
We
never saw him again because he died in an automobile accident a couple of weeks
later. We don’t know the end of his story, but Jesus does. We are hopeful that
we will see him again one day. That is the hope and prayer for all of our
patients, friends and neighbors.
